Gasly crash 'annoying' for Red Bull

Pierre Gasly's crash in FP2 was branded "an annoying accident" by Red Bull boss Christian Horner, with the Frenchman again on the back foot at the German Grand Prix.

Gasly had only managed to go 15th-fastest at Hockenheim during the one-lap practice runs, but the incident came as he was practising long runs. Getting his foot down coming onto the main straight, Gasly under-steered into the gravel and smashed both left-hand wheels clean off his RB15 in the barriers.

The Frenchman had put in an impressive performance at Silverstone a fortnight ago, finishing fourth in the British GP to match his best F1 result, and Horner confirmed that Gasly will fortunately avoid penalties, despite the rebuild job on the horizon.

"We need to get the chassis back and have a proper look at it, but unfortunately it was about a 10G impact," Horner told Sky Sports.

"You could see it's done a bit of damage, luckily it's not a race [gear]box or race engine. It's frustrating really to lose a car at that point of a session.

"Off the back of a good result at Silverstone, it's not the start to the weekend you want here but it's only free practice.

"We'll get the car rebuilt tonight and rebuild on that for tomorrow, but it's an annoying accident.

"It is what it is. We can't change it now and we've just got to get on with it."
