F1 engines are 'TOO incredible' these days
Says Racing Point technical director.
Racing Point technical director Andrew Green reckons Formula 1 could benefit from actually regressing in terms of engine technology, as he believes the current V6 hybrid era engines are “too incredible” which is making the cars too easy to drive.
Since 2014 when the hybrid era has been introduced, engines have become much more efficient, with Mercedes actually created the most statistically efficient power unit in the history of the sport.
This has coincided with the Silver Arrows dominating both the constructors’ and drivers’ championships, having won every single title available over the past five years.
Green, of Racing Point who use Mercedes engines, wants power units to be simplified whilst retaining the power.
"I think what we have now is an incredible piece of engineering in the back of the car," Green suggested.

"But it could just be too incredible.
"I think what we have is potentially something where the technology bar of the power unit is just way too high and I think I would like to see something that is just slightly simpler. That's my view.
"I think I'd never say no to more horsepower. I think the sport can't have enough horsepower. We need to make the cars harder to drive. I think more power; a simpler power unit. That's where I would be going."
In the 2019 F1 season, Mercedes have continued their domination so far and collected five one-two finishes in a row in the first five races.
