F1 drivers picked their Driver of the Year...

Formula 1 drivers were given the opportunity to vote for their driver of the year. Not to say that the grid are an unimaginative bunch, but Lewis Hamilton took the cake, to add to his multitude of other Driver of the Year awards for 2018.

Hamilton won his fifth drivers' title in 2018 – and his fourth in five years of the V6 Hybrid era – as Mercedes once again proved too strong, albeit with a renewed push from Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel.

Perhaps undone by his on-track errors that proved so costly in the title race, Vettel is fourth – the same placing he received in GPFans' Driver Index!

Another Index match is Max Verstappen, who is ranked second to Hamilton, but there's a slight surprise in third as Fernando Alonso takes a rare podium spot.

Alonso's best result of the season came at the opening race in Australia with a fifth-place finish proving to be a false dawn for McLaren as they soon tumbled down the grid as the year wore on.

Perhaps the Spaniard's high spot is evidence of the regard with which he is held in by his colleagues, as he bids farewell to full-time F1 action for 2019 in order to chase the 'Triple Crown' in Indianapolis.

Check out the drivers' own top 10 below, and let us know your top 10 drivers of the season!
