F1 should welcome Marquez, says Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has been discussing the recent testing of Marc Marquez in an F1 car following his trial in a 2012 Red Bull model, and believes that the sport would welcome the legendary Moto GP rider if he ever chose to change disciplines.
Marquez has won the Moto GP world championship on four occasions, becoming a fixture within the sport at the age of just 25, and last week he tested out a previous model of the Red Bull car to perform some laps of the Red Bull ring in Austria.
He has reached the media spotlight as a result and you can see his discussion of how he found his experience below.
With Fernando Alonso also flirting with other motorsports including his outing in the Le Mans race this weekend, Hamilton said that any driver switching the other way - from car to bike - would struggle, and that Marquez would likely be welcomed into the sport by him and his colleagues.
He said: "To be honest I never even knew that [Marc Marquez] drove a car and that he had an interest.
"It’s a lot easier for them to come here, that’s for sure. They can practice and practice. If I was to go and ride their bike most likely I’m going to break something pretty early on! At least one thing, and then it puts you out for a while.
"But it’s exciting and we’d always welcome a legend like him."
There is no indication at this stage that Marquez is considering changing disciplines, but the fact that he has been testing has set some tongues wagging about his future at Moto GP.
