Alonso wants fans refunded after 'boring' Monaco GP
Fernando Alonso believes fans should be refunded after 'the most boring race ever' in Monaco, in which Daniel Ricciardo led from the front and, other than Max Verstappen's move from the rear of the grid, little else happened of note.
Alonso had gearbox issues and was the only official retirement in the race, one in which the grid largely stayed in the same formation they held during qualifying, with Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton following Ricciardo home.
The Australian won despite suffering from power issues while tyre concerns limited the chasing pack, and in the end the race meandered to a close without any real incident.
Alonso didn't hold back when speaking after the race, going as far to say that spectators should get a refund for what they had just witnessed.
He slammed: "Extremely boring. I mean, this is probably the most boring race ever.
"Without a safety car, without yellow flags, I think the sport needs to think a little bit about the show because this is very disappointing.
"Probably the most boring race ever in Formula 1. So I think we probably need to give something to the fans at the end of the race just to pay the ticket back a little.
I think it's just Monaco, it's the way it is. I think it was quite boring without a safety car or anything. We just start in our qualy position and we run until the chequered flag in that position."
Alonso was clearly still reeling from the race and even had a cheeky dig by sending out a tweet promoting the Indy 500 coming later on Sunday, calling it the 'race of the day'.
Ready to watch and enjoy the RACE of the day ???????????????????? https://t.co/TfBmsKOc2k — Fernando Alonso (@alo_oficial) May 27, 2018
