Verstappen reveals 'incomparable' F1 title difference
Red Bull driver has won his two titles in very different circumstances
Max Verstappen has described the difference between his two F1 title triumphs as 'incomparable' given the contrast in circumstances between them.
Ten months ago, Verstappen secured his maiden championship following an epic season-long battle with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton that was decided in controversial circumstances on the final lap of the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
Racing to a new set of regulations this year, Verstappen has dominated, winning 12 of the 18 grands prix to date in a relatively one-sided contest, and with the chance of claiming the record for most victories in a season.
Asked whether the two titles felt different, Verstappen replied: "Yeah, totally. I mean, very different emotions, of course.
"But that's also because the whole season is very different anyway, starting with completely different cars, a completely different way of racing.
"And then, of course, the number of races we've won. But also they all came in quite a different way.
"Last year, it was all really qualifying dependent, and that's how you would normally win a race. Now, even with some engine penalties, it was coming back to the front."
Unsurprisingly claiming the year to be "enjoyable" and "special", Verstappen feels he may find it difficult to replicate.
"It will be very hard, I think, in the future to match it from myself in the future," he added. "That's why we really have to appreciate it and really enjoy it.
"We were enjoying it already, probably now we can just enjoy it a little bit more."
Suggested to Verstappen the way he won the title this season was more satisfying compared to last year, he replied: "As I said before, it's just different because of the whole season.
"Last year was very special for me winning a title. But this year has been… anyway, already because of the cars being very different.
"But also the way we were working as a team. Okay, we had a tough start, but I think after that we really worked well as a team.
"We barely made any mistakes so the two years you cannot compare."
