Gasly denies AlphaTauri "throwing in the towel"
Pierre Gasly has claimed AlphaTauri will not 'throw in the towel' in its quest to climb the F1 constructors' standings this season.
AlphaTauri sits eighth in the championship placings after 13 races.
This position is a far cry from the high of last year that saw the Faenza-based team secure 142 points and sixth overall, a record achievement since Red Bull acquired the team ahead of the 2006 campaign.
Despite being surpassed by Haas and Alfa Romeo in the opening phase of the season, Gasly confirmed the team is far from prepared to settle in its current position.
"We’re not throwing in the towel," said Gasly.
"We are continuing to work hard and give our maximum to try and bring out more performance from the car as quickly as possible so that we can chase points every weekend."
AlphaTauri has finished in the top 10 at just two of the last nine races with zero scores registered on the last five occasions.
Only Williams is suffering a longer score-less run at present with an eight-race streak ongoing.
"The last few races before the break had been rather complicated for us, with no points scored and things did not go our way," added the Frenchman. "It was not what we wanted as a team.
"Since France, we’ve had some updates on the car, which we now understand a bit better. But it’s still complicated and the midfield teams are all very close."
