Nicholas Latifi concedes Williams seat is not secure
Nicholas Latifi admits it would "be lying" to suggest his Williams future is secure after a woeful start to 2022.
The Canadian is just one of two full-time drivers yet to score a point this season and is alone in having failed to complete a single lap inside the top 10. This weekend he heads for his home Canadian Grand Prix with rumours about his seat swirling.
Latifi is out of contract at the end of the current season with Alpine reserve and development driver Oscar Piastri widely tipped to replace him.
But after a campaign which has been blighted by a number of crashes already, there is speculation the switch could yet happen during the season.
Latifi addressed the speculation, saying: “I know I’m going to be driving for the rest of the year. I don’t really have any comment to say about that."
Latifi performance 'must change'
Whilst Latifi is yet to score, his Williams team-mate, Alex Albon, has three points so far in 2022 from top-10 finishes in Australia and Miami.
Speaking in an interview with Le Journal de Montreal, the Canadian conceded: "I definitely have to improve my performance.
"I would be lying if I told you that my place on the team is secure. I am aware that the situation must change."
Asked if he feels as though he is sitting 'on an ejector seat', Latifi added: “No more than all the other drivers whose contract expires at the end of the season."
