Hamilton - Miami Grand Prix a "dream" for F1
Lewis Hamilton has labelled the Miami Grand Prix as a "dream" for F1.
The inaugural race at the Miami International Autodrome takes place this weekend with the United States hosting two events in one F1 season for the first time since 1984 when Dallas and Detroit hosted a grand prix each.
The sport is hoping to capitalise on a growing market in the country, boosted largely by Netflix series Drive to Survive, with the record-breaking crowds at last year's United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas serving as proof of the piquing interest.
Speaking about the new race at Miami Beach Golf Club as part of his pre-race sponsor event with seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady, Hamilton said: "There is a part where you are excited and there is a nervous part, you know.
"It is a new circuit, there is not a lot of time to practice but it is exciting when you go out on a new course, you go out and you are discovering all the different features of the circuit and the surroundings.
"This is a dream for our sport to be in Miami.
"We have been here to see other sports but our sport will hopefully own its right to be here this week and put on a good show for everyone."
Miami GP "amazing" showing of Florida growth
The race on Sunday takes place around the home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team, Hard Rock Stadium and though Brady leads state-rivals Tampa Bay, the American pointed to F1's positive impact on Florida.
"There is a lot more culture coming to the area," explained Brady.
"Even the advent of F1 and what they have done over at the Hard Rock [Stadium], is pretty amazing but it just speaks to the growth of this state, it is a great place to be."
