Alpine has been forced to bring the curtain down on its test at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya due to a car fire inside Fernando Alonso's Alpine.

Alonso was leading the way in the morning session when he was ordered to stop on track by the team as it could see a loss of pressure.

The two-time F1 champion was forced to jump out when smoke started billowing from the rear of the A522.

Following an investigation after the car returned to the garage on the back of a flat-bed track, it has now been determined it is not worth returning to the track.

A team statement read: "After further investigations in the garage following Fernando Alonso’s on-track stoppage earlier this morning, the team can confirm the issue was a problem with the hydraulics.

"A minor sealing issue led to a fire in the back of the car.

"The team has successfully completed 266 laps during the three days of the Barcelona shakedown.

"Repairs on the car will continue, and as a result we won’t be running for the remainder of the day.

"We look forward to be back in action at the next test in Bahrain."
