Haas driver Nikita Mazepin believes F1 drivers are "in their own world" and suggested the so-called qualifying 'gentleman's agreement' is no more after a meeting with FIA race director Michael Masi.
The Russian came under fire for his driving conduct during qualifying early on in his rookie season, particularly in Bahrain where he overtook multiple cars at the final corner ahead of a flying lap before spinning at turn one and ruining the laps of those behind.
But with numerous incidents towards the end of the season involving more experienced drivers on the grid, Mazepin indicated he had requested a meeting with Masi in Saudi Arabia to discuss potential fixes for qualifying issues.
More issues arose in the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi, where Sebastian Vettel slated his fellow drivers for failing to adhere to the supposed rule between competitors about retaining position after missing out on his final flying lap in Q2.
Revealing the details of the talks, Mazepin said: "Michael is a really nice and open guy to work with, so that was great. I wanted to see him in regards to the 'gentleman's agreement' but obviously that is not something he is in charge of.
"He just said to talk with the drivers. I had a talk with the drivers and I don't think the agreement... I think everyone said it is happening anymore, so no more gentlemen, from what I understood.
"I think everybody is in their own world."
