Bottas 'so much better than he thinks' - Wolff

Bottas joins Alfa Romeo for 2022

Toto Wolff has told departing Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas he is "so much better" than he thinks he is.

Bottas leaves the Silver Arrows after five years alongside Lewis Hamilton, with F1 constructors' championship success in each of his campaigns with the team.

With George Russell being promoted from Williams to partner the seven-time champion in 2022, Bottas will make the switch to Alfa Romeo to spearhead the team's new chapter with new regulations being introduced to F1 from next season onwards.

Bottas has labelled his time with Mercedes a "failure" but when finding out the Finn had amassed 43 front-row starts in a farewell video on the team's Youtube channel, Wolff said: "You are so much better than you think."
