Lando Norris has revealed discussions over a potential engine change and grid penalty for the Mexico City Grand Prix are "ongoing" at McLaren.

Of the eight Mercedes powered drivers on the Formula 1 grid, only Norris and Lance Stroll have yet to take a fourth power unit this season.

Of the remaining six drivers, Valtteri Bottas has been hit was the most penalties with the Finn currently on his sixth internal combustion engine [ICE] with only three permitted to last the year.

After team-mate Daniel Ricciardo took his fourth power unit in Turkey, Norris conceded his time could be coming.

"It's something that's ongoing," explained Norris. "Nearly all the other Merc drivers have taken one.

"But it's a conversation going on between our team and Mercedes as to what's best before the end of the season, whether we do or we don't, whether we take one now or before the end of the year."

Ricciardo was handed a back of the grid penalty for taking a fourth ICE as well as all the ancillary parts.

However, were Norris to take just a fresh ICE, he would drop back only 10 places the same as Lewis Hamilton in Turkey.

Countering the fears, Norris added: "There's not long left but whether we take one before the end of the season has yet to be decided.

"It will be a discussion that goes on until the end of the season."
