Ricciardo slates F1 crash video "idiots"
Daniel Ricciardo has labelled Formula 1 as "idiots" for glamorising incidents in social media video compilations in an effort to boost interaction.
F1 published a video at the conclusion of last season entitled 'top 10 most dramatic moments of 2020 F1 season' which included six incidents, with Lewis Hamilton's tyre failure at the end of the British Grand Prix also showcased.
Speaking to Square Mile, McLaren driver Ricciardo issued a warning to the sport over glorifying crashes when trying to attract new viewers.
"I think last year, F1 put on their social channels, like, 'top 10 moments of the year' or something, and eight of the ten were crashes," said Ricciardo.
"I was just like, you guys are f*****g idiots. Maybe 12-year-old kids want to see that kind of content, and that's cool because they don't know any better, but we're not kids. Just do better, guys. Do better than that."
It is not the first occasion that the Australian has been critical of F1's handling of broadcasting incidents to the public.
When Romain Grosjean miraculously escaped from his horrific fiery accident at last season's Bahrain Grand Prix, Ricciardo was less than impressed with the continuous replays shown by the sport.
“I’m disgusted and disappointed with Formula 1 for showing, or choosing the way to show it as they did and broadcast replays after replays after replays of the fire, his car split in half," he said at the time.
"And then, like that’s not enough, they go to his onboard. Why do we need to see this? We’re competing again in an hour."
