Ferrari engine feels more powerful this season - Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen believes Ferrari has made a clear step forward with its power unit this season.

The Ferrari-powered teams, the Scuderia, Alfa Romeo and Haas, struggled on high-speed circuits and tracks with long straights last year as a consequence of technical directives issued by the FIA regarding the Ferrari system at the end of 2019.

Alfa Romeo driver Raikkonen has revealed he has been able to feel an improvement in the new Ferrari power unit so far this season.

“For sure we have a bit more horsepower and definitely, it is a step forward," said the Finn

“It is better compared to last year. A step in the right direction. You always want more but it is going the right way.”

The former world champion, however, was quick to warn that the Scuderia's rivals will not have stood still.

"You would expect the other manufacturers are doing the same thing and it depends how much they have all improved," added Raikkonen.

The team has also made progress with the car, according to Raikkonen's team-mate Antonio Giovinazzi.

The Italian said: “It felt easier to drive, especially in difficult conditions as we had in the test. We are happy with the power unit and with the car.

"We also did a good job to check all the data and try to optimise everything.”
