Hamilton reveals to losing four kilograms in weight while suffering from Covid-19

Lewis Hamilton has revealed to suffering from a dramatic weight loss due to the effects of Covid-19.

The seven-time champion tested positive for the virus the day after his Bahrain Grand Prix victory which subsequently forced him to sit out the following weekend's Sakhir GP.

Although Hamilton returned for the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP, he complained during the event of lacking energy, describing himself as "blown" after finishing third behind race-winner Max Verstappen.

In his latest post on Instagram, Hamilton has expanded further on the effects of the virus.

“I’ve lost 6kg over the past two months, 4 of which I lost when I got COVID,” wrote Hamilton. “I’ve lost so much muscle.

“Starting from a low point in strength now, not fun but I’m determined to get my strength back and to be 100% again. No pain no gain."

Although Hamilton will almost certainly allow himself Christmas to fully rest and recuperate, he will then have just over two months to get himself back in shape ahead of pre-season testing in early March.

After the race at the Yas Marina Circuit, Hamilton conceded he did not think he would be in a position to compete.

At the time he said: "I didn't at any time [while he had Covid-19] think I would be here [in Abu Dhabi].

"I am truly grateful for my health and to be alive and looking forward to recovering over the next period of time we have and getting back into training and get my body back to where I know it should be."
