Haas anticipate Grosjean will be discharged from hospital on Tuesday

Haas driver Romain Grosjean is expected to be discharged from hospital on Tuesday following his horrific crash at the start of Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Grosjean hit the barriers at over 130mph on the exit of turn three at the Bahrain International Circuit, resulting in his car breaking in two and bursting into flames on impact.

The incident tested all the safety improvements made to F1 across the past decades, with Grosjean himself stating the halo, which remained rigid as it split apart the barriers and prevented his helmet from making contact, is "the greatest thing we've brought to Formula 1".

Grosjean was airlifted to hospital to treat burns to the backs of his hands. X-rays showed no fractures.

Team principal Guenther Steiner confirmed on Sunday evening he had spoken to the driver and would visit on Monday.

Providing an update on Grosjean's condition a Haas spokesperson said: "Haas F1 Team driver Romain Grosjean is continuing his convalescence at the Bahrain Defence Force [BDF] hospital having remained there overnight following Sunday’s incident at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

"Treatment on the burns Grosjean sustained on the back of both his hands is going well. Grosjean was visited by Guenther Steiner, team principal of Haas F1 Team, on Monday and it is anticipated he will be discharged from the care of the hospital on Tuesday 1st December."
