Controversial Formula 1 sponsor Rich Energy is openly courting Williams, the team in need of investment after the loss of title sponsor ROKiT.
Rich Energy had a difficult relationship with the Haas team during a brief partnership in 2019. After a show-piece launch of the black and gold livery, things went quickly and very publicly downhill, reaching a head at the British Grand Prix.
Now, the energy drinks company is seeking a new opportunity within Formula 1.
"This was livery proposed by Williams Racing [sic] 18 months ago," tweeted Rich Energy CEO William Storey. "In my opinion [sic] beyond a 9 figure capital injection, they need a new business [sic] model & new leadership. That way they can build on the heritage [sic], run the team on 1st class lines & enjoy the F1 [sic] renaissance they deserve."
The company appear keen to suggest a deal was close to being reached with Williams for the 2019 season. Images shared show a team name of 'Williams Racing Rich Energy' on the sponsorship boards, with logos and branding featuring prominently on the car.
Williams have already promised a revised livery for the 2020 season. With the red of ROKiT and ROK Drinks set to disappear, could a familiar black and gold design reappear?
