2020 a 'fresh start' for Williams

Williams Formula One deputy team principal Claire Williams is looking forward to the 'fresh start' that the 2020 season will bring after launching the FW43 on Monday morning.

The 2019 season was the worst in the history of the Williams team. Just a single point scored, eclipsing the five-points scored in both 2011 and 2013, has left space seemingly only for improvement.

“This year marks a fresh start for the team," said Williams. "We have spent time addressing our areas of weakness and have ensured that we have the right people, structures, procedures and resource in place to deliver competitive race cars.

"We are all committed to re-building Williams and returning the team to competitiveness. As such, our 2020 campaign is about making progress.

"The fighting spirit is still very much alive, and this year, everyone will continue that fight until we get back to where we want to be.”

The team principal role at Williams has always been held by a member of the Williams family - founder Frank Williams still holding the official title although daughter Claire now runs the outfit -, but 2019 saw calls for the deputy team principal to step aside and allow a new face to take the helm.

Preseason testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will begin on Wednesday and this will go a long way to seeing what kind of pressure Williams will face in 2020.
