FORMULA E: Mexico E Prix: Mitch Evans claims victory as Mercedes crash out

Mitch Evans put in a dominant performance to take the Mexico E Prix and climb into first place in the Championship ahead of Mercedes Stoffel Vandoorne who crashed out.

Rival Sam Bird looked to be on course to gain more points in the Championship only for a crash late on to scupper those chances, which allowed Antonio Felix Da Costa to pass and claim second.

The Envision Virgin racer looked to have redeemed himself after a lacklustre qualifying performance but it seemed that the pressure all got too much, as the Brit tried to make up for his first mistake only for another crash late on to put him out.

Swiss and Nissan driver Sebastien Buemi claimed his first podium of the season as his superb start and consistent performance throughout allowed him to take the final podium spot.

Mercedes have had a strong start this season but neither driver finished the race as Nyck De Vries and Championship leader Vandoorne crashed out, with the latter dropping to fourth in the table.

Alexander Sims' fortunes turned around in the race. After starting 20th on the Grid his superb driving and overtaking speed allowed him to climb up to fifth, as he also took the fastest laps point keeping him at second only a point behind.

Thanks to that performance from the British driver, it keeps BMW on top of the constructors' championships whilst Jaguar now climb up to second.

DA Techeetah team issues continued to show as Da Costa and Jean-Eric Vergne kept swapping positions on and off.

However, the good news for the Chinese team is that they have now ascended to third in the constructors' table, hoping to kick start from here after a poor early start in the season.

Last year’s winner Lucas Di Grassi could not seem to find the drive that earnt him a superb win in 2019 as the Audi driver ended up being 28 seconds behind Evans.

The Jaguar driver has been consistent throughout all stages of this round in Mexico and Evans will be looking to take this form into the next race in Marrakesh.
