Grosjean doubts 2021 regulations will shuffle the pack

Will 2021 be a level playing field or a more one-sided affair?

Romain Grosjean says that it is more difficult to win in modern Formula One than it was when he began his career at Renault in 2009 with machinery counting for more than driver ability.

Grosjean, currently racing for the Haas team, completed seven races for Renault in 2009 before beginning his Formula One career in earnest in 2012 with the same team, then racing as Lotus Renault.

With eleven podium finishes to his name, Grosjean has proven that he can compete towards the front of the order, but 2019 saw him equal his worst point return in his F1 career - scoring just eight points, the same as with the 'twin tusked' Lotus in 2014.

"When I started there was still the chance to see six winners in the first six races. Today we have six double victories in the first six races," Grosjean told Motorsport-Total.com.

"There are two races in one race. That's a shame. But I don't think that will change anytime soon."

Sadly, Grosjean is less than confident that the new aerodynamic regulations, which will be introduced for 2021, will serve to create a level playing field and will possibly increase the spread of the field yet more still.

"Definitely not in 2021", Grosjean continued. "There is no budget limit this year, so the big teams will use all their resources to be ready for 2021.

"But there are some great ideas after that. I think Liberty is pushing things in the right direction."
