FIA confirm Mexico GP track changes, extra DRS zone

An extra chance to overtake?

The FIA has confirmed that an extra third DRS zone will be added to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix.

The extra activation zone will give drivers a potential boost heading after Turn 11 on the run down into the famous stadium section.

The pit straight and runs between Turns 3 and 4 are also DRS zones, both share a detection point at the exit of Turn 15, coming out of the old baseball arena.

Max Verstappen won in Mexico last year after jumping pole-sitting team-mate Daniel Ricciardo off the line, with the Australian unable to make inroads back into his team-mate until he suffered engine failure 10 laps from the end of the race.

The Dutchman is pessimistic about his chances of winning in Mexico for a third straight year, with Ferrari currently the class of the field in one-lap pace, having taken five pole positions in a row.

Lewis Hamilton has won the drivers' championship in Mexico City, as he has done in the last two seasons.

The Mercedes driver must outscore team-mate Valtteri Bottas by 14 points to wrap up his sixth world title.
