Verstappen is the best at catching up, says father Jos
Jos Verstappen has heaped praise on his son, Max, saying the Red Bull driver is currently the best on the grid at catching up from behind, whilst also revealing his confidence that the team are performing much better with Honda as opposed to Renault.
Verstappen is viewed by many as a future world champion, but is yet to get close to Mercedes and Ferrari in the championship standings.
Jos believes that, with growing experience, Max will only get better.
"He is still very young, even younger than when I started," he told verstappen.nl.
"And then he already has a hundred races on it. I would say that it is an experienced, young talent.
"He was indeed very strong, but he must always take the risk to get that result. If you are going to take risks, anything can happen.
"Then it is also easier if you start in the first row because you do not have to take that much risk. That is actually the trick. But he did a really good job. And catching up, Max is really the best."
Last year, Red Bull made the decision to switch engine supplier from Renault to Red Bull after over a decade with the French manufacturer, and Verstappen has sensed a positive change within the team.
"Yes, I have that feeling," he continued.
"Everyone is ready and is looking forward to that, you will notice. The people of Honda are also very calm and organized. Moreover, it is only the start, so I think it can only get better."
