Mercedes confirm involvement in Netflix doc - on one condition...

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confirmed that the Silver Arrows will feature in the second series of 'Drive to Survive' the documentary series following Formula 1 aired on Netflix. Both Mercedes and Ferrari did not feature in the first series, which followed last season's ups and down.

The series was well-received by fans new and old alike, with social media awash with new fans claiming the programme had drawn them in.

Adding the two biggest teams on the grid will likely bolster viewing figures even further.

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto recently said the Scuderia were considering taking part in the second series, for which filming has already begun at races this year.

Although Mercedes will allow access, Wolff revealed it would be strictly limited.

Asked to explain Mercedes' absence last year, Wolff said: "Mainly because our main competitor didn't do it and I thought it was too much of a distraction.

"But then I watched it on my way to Australia and I didn't like it. I think it didn't reflect that was happening on track. But everybody who spoke to me, who was not a hardcore race fan, said they loved it!

"So I watched it again and I realised that it showed stories that on track don't exist. It's about the characters. It showed me a new angle to attract a new audience, different to how I perceive F1.

"This is why I decided to join and be part of Netflix 2019. But at only one race, and that will probably be Hockenheim. But I am not sure yet."
