VIDEO: What has happened to Stoffel Vandoorne?!
It wasn't supposed to be like this! Stoffel Vandoorne will have hoped that taking to Formula E after two miserable years in Formula 1 will have helped him turn around his fortunes, but the Belgian is slap-bang out of luck, having crashed out of the Santiago E-Prix.
After two years of struggle at McLaren alongside Fernando Alonso, things looked rosy for Vandoorne when he secured a FE seat with HWA, the Mercedes-backed team sampling FE before the Silver Arrows debut next season.
But then the races have started…
Vandoorne finished second-last in the season-opener in Saudi Arabia and crashed out of race two in Morocco, having qualified stone last, something he's gotten used to over the past year.
Again Vandoorne fought back, starting fifth on the grid in Chile and looking to bank some big points.
But then…

A slither into the barriers, which bizarrely arrived just after he had received a surge in power thanks to FE's FanBoost, ended another race early for the Belgian, who must have walked under a million ladders some time in the winter of 2016 – it can be the only explanation, surely?
Extremely disappointed with my stupid mistake today ???? Im sorry for the whole team, good points were up for grabs today! Gonna work hard to come back stronger! ???? Ciao Santiago pic.twitter.com/PJONieGHBj — Stoffel Vandoorne (@svandoorne) January 26, 2019
