Lauda to 'throw away' walking aid in January
Niki Lauda has revealed his plan to 'throw away' the walking aid which he has been using for the past while as he continues his recovering from lung transplant surgery, whilst also assuring fans that his new organ is working "perfectly".
The Mercedes executive chairman missed the final portion of the 2018 season as he was admitted to hospital for the transplant to save his life, having already undergone the procedure years previously.
Lauda has provided an update on his condition, and claims the surgery was a success, with only problem being a lack of strength due to being bedridden for many months.
"At the end of January, I'm throwing away the walker," the three-time world champion told Kurier and Osterreich newspapers.
"The lungs work perfectly, but I've been in bed for five months so the main problem is the muscles. All I have to do now is gain more strength.

"I feel good and I am not taking as many pills as before. Everyday life is not the same as before, but every day I make progress with my two physios.
The Austrian went on to reveal that he is expecting to make a full recovery from the surgery.
"I use the tennis court in front of my house as I need the flat surface to learn how to walk properly again.
"According to the doctors, I will recover completely," he added.
