Dr Helmut Marko says a change of philosophy is on the cards for Red Bull's RB15, with new parts set to be brought for the Chinese Grand Prix, with a bigger upgrade package reportedly slated for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Red Bull's plunge with Honda was a source of great intrigue before the 2019 season began, with Marko and team principal Christian Horner issuing several positive pre-season predictions of the Japanese marque's offering.

With Pierre Gasly struggling over the first two races of 2019, Max Verstappen finished third in the Australian GP, and fourth in Bahrain last weekend, although the Dutchman was never on the pace of Ferrari and Mercedes.

Red Bull are certain that their issues have nothing to do with Honda, and have looked at themselves as they look to extract greater pace and balance.

It is reported by Formule 1 that Red Bull may follow Ferrari's front-wing concept, which is only replicated on the grid by Alfa Romeo – perhaps owing to growing ties between the teams.

"There will be no new car," Marko told the Dutch magazine ."We have an aerodynamic problem. It is in the chassis.

"We must gradually get closer to Mercedes and Ferrari, find solutions to our problem. That is really necessary.

"This year will be fine. Absolutely."

Part of Marko's confidence comes in Adrian Newey's renewed commitment to the Formula 1 team in recent years and Red Bull's aerodynamic chief is apparently on the case.

He told Auto Motor und Sport: "Newey is deep in thought, which usually means that he understands what needs to be done to correct the problem."
