Last available McLaren Senna sold at auction

It is a beautiful car and a fitting tribute to the late Ayrton Senna, one that has has been endorsed by the late driver's family, but if you ever dreamed of owning the McLaren, you are out of luck for now at least - the last one available has been sold at auction.

The stunning vehicle has had a limited run of just 500 and the first 499 were snapped up almost immediately after the announcement was made.

But in a fantastic show of charity from McLaren they have donated the £2 million raised from the sale to the Ayrton Senna Institute, a non-profit organisation which has been established to provide education to children from the favelas in his homeland of Brazil.

The winning bid in the auction is more than three time the amount of the official list price of the vehicle, with Senna's sister and her son Bruno, a McLaren ambassador, in attendance to watch the money being raised.

The car itself, aside from its aesthetic beauty, is one of the most ambitous road-legal cars McLaren has ever built, with a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 producing an eye-watering 789 bhp.
