'This won't happen again' - Marko furious over Verstappen-Ricciardo crash

An apoplectic Helmut Marko has discussed the incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix involving Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen which led to the end of the race for both drivers, and he said that there will be measures to ensure that it never happens again.

Both Ricciardo and Verstappen were involved in healthy competition throughout the race, with one or two comings together earlier in early laps.

But their day was about to get much worse, with Ricciardo slamming into Verstappen at pace as both slowed for a corner, leaving both of them embarrassed and eliminated, bringing out the safety car which would ultimately decide the race.

Red Bull chief Christian Horner refused to pass comment immediately after the incident, claiming that he 'wanted to speak to his drivers first', but at the end of the race Marko did not hold back in his assessment of what transpired.

He said: "We let the drivers race and they're doing that so... unbelievable. Both were wrong. It was a racing accident between the two there's not more fault on one or the other side.

"We always let drivers race, we don't have a number one and number two but we expect responsibility from the drivers' side."

Marko also that he is not at all interested in suggesting blame for what happened, and expressed his disappointment that both men did not show a greater degree of common sense in the situation.

He added: "I don't care who is to blame. Both drivers should have enough brain to avoid such an accident. We will take measures to guarantee it won't happen again."
