Ocon reveals his love for Bahrain

Esteban Ocon has spoken of his love for the Bahrain Grand Prix due to the detailed organisation and the atmosphere of the paddock, whilst also revealing his love for racing at night as he believes it arguably provides a better spectacle for the viewers.

Ocon, of Force India, had a disappointing opening to the season in the first Grand Prix in Australia as he finished outside the points positions in 12th. The team have claimed that both he and Sergio Perez are set to be provided with a brand new front wing for the upcoming GP in Bahrain, however, and Ocon was almost giddy at the prospect of getting behind the wheel in Sakhir.

"When I think about Bahrain I always remember the beautiful paddock, which has so much space and looks amazing at night with all the trees lit up," Ocon said.

"Every year there’s a barbeque for the paddock and it’s nice that all the teams and media can come together before the racing begins.

"I love racing at night. It almost feels quicker under the lights and it looks better on television.

"Hopefully the fans like it as much as the drivers. The track is good fun and there are a few good overtaking spots, such as turn one and turn four.

"It’s a track that feels very satisfying when your car is working well. I particularly enjoy turns five, six and seven because they are so quick and then you’re immediately into a big braking zone for turn eight.

"It’s tricky because you approach at really high speed and it’s easy to make a mistake and run wide."

Bahrain is noted for being one of the most physically demanding Grand Prix races due to the fact that qualifying takes place during the intense heat of desert daytime, while the race itself is after dark when it is cooler. Even though Ocon loves Bahrain, he is under no illusions as to the difficult conditions ahead.

"It’s a tough weekend physically because of the heat. The daytime practice sessions are the most difficult, but fortunately it gets a bit cooler in the evenings for qualifying and the race," the Force India driver continued.

"You need to drink lots to be hydrated and make sure you don’t lose concentration."
