Mercedes and Red Bull to showcase F1 title battle at Goodwood
Five F1 teams have been confirmed on the line-up for the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed including title rivals Mercedes and Red Bull.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year's festival was among a large number of events that were cancelled around the world but the Festival of Speed will return this year on July 8-11.
Carried over from 2020, the theme of the four-day event is 'The Maestros - Motorsport’s Great All-Rounders’ and will feature drivers, teams and manufacturers that have succeeded in a variety of disciplines.
Confirmed to represent F1 on the bill are Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Williams and McLaren.
The Duke of Richmond, the founder of the Festival of Speed, said: “The glamour and spectacle of Formula 1 have become an intrinsic part of the Festival of Speed with so many legendary teams, drivers and cars attending over the years.
"We can’t wait to once again hear and see the cars running in anger up the Hill, delighting the fans as only Grand Prix winners can.”
The event will take place the weekend before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone which was, on Wednesday, confirmed as a trial event for the new sprint race format.
In previous years a number of iconic championship-winning cars have completed the hillclimb including Jenson Button's Brawn BGP 001, Ayrton Senna's McLaren MP4/4 and Michael Schumacher's first title-winning Ferrari, the F1-2000.
