AlphaTauri to "fight hard" but Gasly concedes catching Ferrari will be "tricky"
Pierre Gasly believes it will be “tricky” for AlphaTauri to hunt down Ferrari in the constructors’ championship after the team’s “worst weekend of the year” in Turkey.
AlphaTauri was just 14 points behind its Italian rivals heading to Istanbul but left the weekend 41 points adrift after Ferrari scored a three-four finish. In contrast, neither Gasly nor Daniil Kvyat registered a point.
It was only the second time the team has failed to score this season and Gasly said: "We have had a good car and have been competitive at nearly all the races this year.
"I think we have got what we need to fight hard and score points here, even if it’s going to be tricky to move up in the constructors’ classification. I’ll just focus one at a time in these last three races and see what we can do."
Gasly believes Bahrain could be an opportunity to get back in the race for sixth as the layout is one that has always suited the team's car.
In 2018, the French driver registered a then-best result finishing fourth for the team then racing as Toro Rosso.
"I really like the track," he said. "It has got a few straights, which is good for overtaking, helped by the fact it is quite wide. There are some interesting corners and it is quite technical.
"I spent two months [in the region] immediately after what should have been the Australian GP. Now, we will be there for almost three weeks, which means I will have spent almost a quarter of the year in that part of the world."
