Ferrari optimistic of improvement at power limited Nürburgring

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is optimistic of an improved performance from his team at the Nürburgring because it is "not the most power-sensitive circuit".

In what can only be described as a dreadful campaign, the fall of Ferrari was highlighted by the mere fact the team regarded Charles Leclerc's sixth place finish at the Russian Grand Prix as a good result.

However, Binotto is confident the circuit characteristics of the Nürburgring will play to Ferrari's strengths.

"It’s not the most power-sensitive circuit, so power limited," he said.

"Power and traction will be less critical there. I think the weather can be very variable, it’s very late in the season. Let’s see."

Sebastian Vettel again failed to trouble the scoreboard in Sochi, meaning the four time champion has scored just one single point from the past four races.

Despite experiencing his leanest spell since beginning his first full campaign in 2008, the German agrees with Binotto that there is reason to be optimistic ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix, especially with the unpredictable weather that "always plays a role".

Vettel commented: "Maybe if there’s wet or like mixed conditions it can mix things up, and where we are, probably helps. So looking forward to going there anyway."

Leclerc echoed Vettel's sentiments and spoke of his joy at returning to the venue for the first time since his junior formula days.

"I love the track," said the Monégasque.

"The last time I was there was in Formula Renault, so quite a long time ago. But I really enjoyed driving on that track.

"So I don’t have a huge experience on it but really looking forward to it and I think anything can happen because the weather will be a big part of the weekend."
