Binotto on Leclerc crash in Germany: 'He'll get over it'
Disappointment for the rookie.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has lamented a missed opportunity for Charles Leclerc to win points at the Germany Grand Prix after he crashed out, but has backed the Monegasque driver to “get over” the incident quickly.
Leclerc already had a tough time of it in qualifying as a fuelling issue saw him eliminated from Q3 in 10th position. Things initially proved as he fought back into contention for a podium spot, but as teams started wondering which tyres to use due to the changing weather conditions, he crashed into the barrier and buried his wheels in the gravel.
Binotto knows it was a mistake from his driver, but thinks he’ll be able to recover.
“He’s aware today was an opportunity missed, but he will get over it,” said the Italian.
“There are plenty more races and there is no doubt that the guy is very quick and today he was delivering an extraordinary performance.

“It’s true that maybe we could have come away with more today, but that’s racing.”
The section of the track at which Leclerc crashed caused mayhem throughout the day, with Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Hulkenberg, and Carlos Sainz all sliding at the same place.
The Ferrari driver labelled the ‘drag’ section as “dangerous”.
