Spanish Grand Prix: Starting grid with penalties applied for Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Giovinazzi
Valtteri Bottas secured a third pole position on the bounce with likely the greatest lap of his Formula 1 career to date as he beat Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by six tenths of a second to take Saturday honours for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Bottas' impressive 2019 goes on and topping Hamilton around the Circuit de Catalunya is no mean feat - the five-time world champion has only qualified behind a teammate in one of the last five events here.
Two drivers started qualifying knowing they would take grid penalties - Daniel Ricciardo and George Russell.
Ricciardo serves a three-place grid penalty for colliding with Daniil Kvyat last time out in Azerbaijan and starts 13th, while Russell took a new gearbox after crashing in FP3 and will swap places with Williams team-mate Robert Kubica on the last row, despite qualifying 1.2 seconds ahead of the Pole.
The Australian's team-mate Nico Hulkenberg was penalised on race-day morning for switching specs of front wing after crashing in Q1 - breaking parc ferme rules in turn. The German will start from the pit lane. Antonio Giovinazzi was also penalised on Sunday morning for a change of gearbox. A five-place grid drop means he will start 19th, and last on the grid.
