Button confirms first Sky Sports appearance of 2019

Jenson Button will form part of Sky Sports' punditry team for the first time in 2019 at the Spanish Grand Prix, the 2009 world champion has confirmed. Button was trumpeted as a major signing for Sky this season, but was not on the broadcast team at the first four races of the season.

Button has previously worked with Channel 4 and was on Sky's analyst team at last year's British Grand Prix.

His last F1 race was in Monaco 2017 as he filled in at McLaren for Fernando Alonso as the Spaniard tackled the Indianapolis 500.

He has remained in racing in Super GT and the World Endurance Championship, although he has given up his remaining WEC duties with SMP Racing for 2019 as the Russian team are struggling to keep pace with Alonso's Toyota Gazoo Racing outfit.

Button has also cut down on racing commitments as his partner Brittny Ward is expecting their first child together.

The former Honda, Brawn GP and McLaren racer will be on UK screens – as well as those around the world that take Sky – at the Circuit de Catalunya next weekend.
