Alonso planning 'many more' 2019 commitments

Fernando Alonso says he wants to pack his 2019 schedule, having already added a return to the Indianapolis 500 to his remaining commitments to Toyota in the World Endurance Championship. Alonso had been linked with a full-time IndyCar drive in 2019, but he is expected to only take part in its flagship race.

After this weekend's 6 Hours of Shanghai, WEC's 2018-19 campaign will return in the new year with events in Sebring (March), Spa-Francorchamps (May) and June's Le Mans 24 Hours.

The 2019 Indy 500 is just three weeks after the Spa WEC event, ensuring Alonso will remain busy, despite ditching Formula 1 in 2019.

The two-time world champion has been linked with drives in NASCAR and Formula E, and says he is looking into ways to fill the second half of his '19 schedule.

"I will do many more, you will know step by step. [Indy 500] is the first announcement," Alonso said.

Hola Shanghai ????????????

"Apart from the three WEC races, I think there are [also] four tests.

"If you add the three race weekends, there are already seven, until June, plus IndyCar tests and the two weeks of the Indy 500.

"If you see the calendar until June, there are only two or three weekends.

"Even though it seems that there are not too many careers, there are many preparations for these.

"I'm looking forward to it."
