F1 2026 engine regulations set for final FIA approval

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has confirmed the FIA World Motor Sport Council is now considering F1's new engine regulations for 2026.

The vote between stakeholders to agree on the direction for the sport had been delayed, with concessions needing to be made for prospective new manufacturers by the existing four OEMs.

It is widely expected that Audi and Porsche will join the grid alongside the introduction of the new regulations, the former's plans still unknown whilst the latter is anticipated to announce a tie-up with Red Bull imminently.

The MGU-H will be dropped whilst other talking points have related to the cost of each unit, as well as the sustainability as F1 strives to hit carbon neutrality by 2030 with the introduction of synthetic net-zero fuels.

Suggesting the regulations had now been submitted for approval by the FIA, Ben Sulayem tweeted: "Over the last 18 months, FIA officials have worked hard with all stakeholders to create exciting new F1 PU regulations that the WMSC are now considering.

"I'm proud of their efforts which allows for new entrants and even more competition."
