Horner - F1 calendar "right on the limit"

Horner - F1 calendar "right on the limit"

Horner, Red Bull, Hungary, 2022

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes F1's expected 24-race calendar for next season is "right on the limit".

The 2023 schedule will be boosted by the new additions of Las Vegas and Qatar but with China looking to make a comeback and strong interest from other venues including South Africa, it is likely that the number of races will continue to grow.

Although some teams are already operating a revolving crew of on-site personnel, this is not possible for all outfits.

Asked by Sky Sports F1 if such an extensive schedule was right for the sport, Horner replied: “When you talk about 24 weekends out of 52 in a year, it does feel too much.

"But then when you look at the venues that are coming in, you think ‘Ok, I’d definitely go an extra weekend for Vegas.’

“If South Africa was on the calendar, I’d definitely do an extra weekend for that as well.

“China might be coming back. It’s such an important market and I think they’re working hard to make the weekends shorter and operationally more bearable for the teams and the travelling staff.

“And it’s going to need that combination but it’s right on the limit.”
