Ricciardo missed most of FP2

Daniel Ricciardo believes he and McLaren "pushed a little too far" before crashing out of Friday practice for the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Australian missed out on the qualifying simulation period during second practice in the principality after a heavy smash on entry into the swimming pool complex.

The corner, on which drivers enter at a speed of over 130mph, almost claimed George Russell and Sebastian Vettel early in the session before Ricciardo finally hit the wall.

The MCL36 seemed to bottom out when understeering on entry before a snap of oversteer and an overcorrection gave Ricciardo no hope of avoiding the barriers.

"It obviously happens quickly but it kind of slowed down as well," explained Ricciardo when recounting the incident.

"I knew everything that was happening and I tried to save it but already, kind of into turn 13 I was losing it. I could feel the car was starting to get away from me and yeah, a little strange.

"Normally you pick up some stuff at turn 14 on the kerb if you kind of get a bit too greedy and the car can get unloaded.

"We pushed a few things with set-up, we are trying but pushed a little too far probably in a couple of areas.

"I tried my best to save it but we couldn't. I know they'll fix it. Obviously, we missed all the session but I am okay. We will be all ready to go."
