Why could there be 'carnage' on the F1 grid in 2018?
Romain Grosjean believes proposed standing restarts could cause "carnage" in Formula 1 this season. The new process was trialled after testing on Wednesday, with potential changes to safety-car restarts to be implemented in 2018, but the Haas driver is not convinced.
Grosjean joined Valtteri Bottas, Fernando Alonso and more on the grid after running on day two of the second test in order to give the new software involved a chance to be run.
Traditional rolling starts will also remain an option in races this year, but Grosjean is not a fan of a standing start, due to the potential struggle to get to grips with cold tyres.
"To me it could be carnage," Grosjean said. "You could lose the car in a straight line. Honestly, I was not having much fun, just trying to upshift and downshift was tricky.

"Bottas was in front of me and was not having much fun either. It's undriveable. I was one of the first cars to come on the grid, so I stay there with Bottas a long time.
"When we restarted it is like it is raining [and we are] on slicks. Every time you upshift the rear wheel spins, every time you downshift the rear locks.
"I'm just going to say that in my experience I feel like it's dangerous. Maybe the others don't feel the same but I don't feel confident going with cold tyres."
One of the others who perhaps does not feel the same is Alonso.
"I don't see any problems," said the McLaren driver.
"Of course, when the track is cold we will have to concentrate more on warming up the tyres, but it's the same for everyone."
