Mazepin hints at unlikely bromance brewing at Haas
Nikita Mazepin has opened the door to proving wrong Haas team principal Guenther Steiner and holidaying with Mick Schumacher.
Mazepin and Schumacher have spent their rookie F1 season largely fighting each other in a Haas that has not been developed since before the season started.
This exclusive battle has resulted in tensions rising on a number of occasions, with Schumacher previously stating his belief the relationship could be beyond repair.
After a social media post of Mazepin driving dirt buggies, however, the relationship appears to have turned a corner.
“We had a little chat, Mick had noticed my social media post I did with Netflix where I went buggying and our Haas suit looked very dirty," said Mazepin.
“I said we went there at my house and he is most welcome to come and we can have some fun together.
“Then we had a little laugh together saying that even though Guenther has mentioned a few times we are not going on holidays together, we could change that in the future, so who knows.”
Steiner recently commented that Haas 'need to make it work' with its two drivers who will continue with the team next season.
Asked if there had been a lengthy chat with Schumacher after the Russian made a move at Monza that led to the German spinning, Mazepin explained: “Me and Mick typically don’t have long chats.
"I think we understand quickly either we are on the same page or we are not. In that respect, there was nothing to be shy of and apologise.
“It was a racing move but it didn’t pay off so I walked up to him, said ‘Sorry dude’, he said ‘That’s okay’ and we moved on. It’s all good I hope.”
