Aston Martin factory 'like nothing seen in F1 before' - Owner Stroll
The new factory is being built at the team's Silverstone base
Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has vowed the new team factory at Silverstone will be unlike anything Formula 1 has seen before.
Ground was officially broken on construction of the delayed project earlier this month, almost two years after building work was originally slated to commence.
The team's driver Sebastian Vettel has been a strong advocate for a more environmentally aware F1 and Stroll insisted the new factory would focus on sustainability when revealing his plans.
"This is really now time to share it with the world. It is a brand new, fit for purpose campus, it is the newest state of the art... I don't think a Formula 1 facility has been built, the last one I think was 18 or 19 years ago," said Stroll.
"It will be the only one currently fit for purpose with the financial regulations taken into consideration.
"It will also be the first 5G factory, be completely sustainable, it will be a true smart factory in every sense of the word."
Aston Martin eye world championships with recruitment drive
The team is in the process of upscaling from its relatively low workforce of around 400 staff members with the aim of reaching a four-figure number of workers.
Stroll indicated the recruitment drive and new factory mirrored his ambition to challenge for the world championship.
"This is really following suit in line with our incredibly aggressive, ambitious recruitment drive and we will be able to have the headcount which we desperately want and need to fulfil my ambitions of fighting for world championships," he added.
"It will be an inspiring and empowering place in which to work, design, manufacture and hopefully win.
"So this is the first major step, in addition to what we have done to date, as far as we have been able to in relation to premises. Very exciting, a hugely significant investment as you could well imagine.
"There has been nothing like it ever before in automotive, be it F1 or any other, certainly not in racing.
"It shows my belief in the team, it confirms my ambitions and confirms my belief in Formula 1 because this is really an investment in Formula 1."
