Why Russell ranks 2021 "my best season in F1"

George Russell believes his performances this season have been "better than expected" as he ranks the season so far at the top of his F1 career.

Russell is contesting his third season in F1 and scored his first points for Williams at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Speaking to GPFans Global before this points score, however, the Briton already ranked his current campaign as his best.

"I would say that actually, it's been my best season in F1 because you're always improving, getting better," he explained.

"With experience, I'd say certainly it's been better than I expected for this season but not as good as it could have been.

"I believe there's been racing where we could have scored points, Imola was probably the main race where we could have scored points. I thought that was sort of really went away from us.

"The second one was the first Austrian race when we retired from eighth."

Russell has twice featured in Q3 this year and only once has been eliminated in the first phase of qualifying and although he remains keen to shake the 'Mr Saturday' nickname, is still yet to be out-qualified by a Williams team-mate.

"There have been missed opportunity but equally there have been exceptional performances in there, getting into Q3 in two races, finishing 12th in France in what was a really strong race for us, and fighting for points at a number of these races," Russell added.

"We've got to take the positives out of it."
