Mercedes announce Gutierrez as brand and business ambassador

Mercedes has announced former Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutierrez as its new brand and business ambassador.

Gutierrez spent three seasons in the sport with Sauber and Haas, before becoming reserve driver for the seven-time world championship-winning constructor in 2017.

Despite his super license expiring last year, the Mexican has remained with the team as a development driver.

The 29-year-old now takes on his new role where he "will also work with other areas of the team, including management, commercial, and marketing departments, with a particular focus on strengthening commercial relationships in the Latin American market".

A naturally delighted Gutierrez explained he would be "developing my experience across all areas of the team as I begin the next chapter of my career off the track.

"The unprecedented success of the team in recent years has strengthened the Mercedes brand around the world, and I have enjoyed working to promote and deepen the team's connections with Latin American markets during my time at Mercedes.

"Over the last three years, I have been privileged to work with the exceptional talent throughout the team, and I look forward to continuing this collaboration further over the coming years in my new business-focused role."

Team principal Toto Wolff added: "Esteban is a valued member of Mercedes and his work behind the scenes since 2018 has made an important contribution to delivering maximum performance from the car at every race weekend.

"Since I have known Esteban, I have been impressed by his overall understanding of our industry and seen the potential for him to make a broader contribution to our success.

"He has supported us to develop valuable commercial relationships in the Latin American market, and he is well-placed to contribute more deeply to other areas of the team as well.

"Esteban's new position will enable him to add value across the team and we are excited to work with him even more closely."
