Leclerc "would love to be back" at "awesome" Mugello with Formula 1
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc is hoping Formula 1 will return to "awesome" Mugello despite suffering another day of frustration in his Ferrari.
The Covid-19 pandemic has allowed F1 to race at previously unused circuits such as Mugello and Portimao, while the Nürburgring and Imola will also see the sport make long-awaited returns after lengthy absences.
Unfortunately, under normal circumstances, F1 avoids staging two races in a country in a season, which means Mugello is unlikely to figure again soon bearing in mind a new deal was struck earlier this year for Monza to continue staging the Italian Grand Prix through to 2024.
Despite this, Leclerc said: "The track is awesome, so [I] would love to be back."
"I actually really enjoyed the weekend, and the track overall. I would love to have on the normal calendar.
"It was very nice, then it was also a very special race because there were a lot of red [Ferrari] flags and everything."
On the occasion of Ferrari's 1,000th grand prix, Leclerc managed points with eighth, although was running as high as third at one stage early on, only for the car to lack pace.
While Leclerc was left to again lament the deficiencies of the SF1000, he at least enjoyed the race to some degree given the number of overtakes that took place at a track that many - including himself - believed beforehand were not possible.
"To be completely honest, I was a bit sceptical before the race about how much we could overtake on this track," added Leclerc.
"But after the race, I have to say that the overtakes, there have been quite a lot of overtakes. So [it was] surprisingly good on that matter."
