Racing Point officially appeal brake duct verdict

The team has maintained throughout that it has done nothing wrong

Racing Point has officially appealed against the FIA sanction handed to the team after the rear brake ducts were perceived to have been designed in a manner not consistent with the regulations.

Racing Point was docked 15 constructors' championship points and handed a €400,000 fine after the FIA deemed the rear brake ducts had predominantly been designed by Mercedes and not, as the regulations dictate, by Racing Point itself.

Racing Point believe it has been harshly dealt with, and maintains it operated within the regulations at all times.

Team owner Lawrence Stroll, who rarely speaks in public, stated during the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix weekend he would, "take all necessary actions to prove our innocence."

He added: "I have never cheated at anything in my life. These accusations are completely unacceptable and not true. My integrity and that of my team are beyond question.

"Everyone at Racing Point was shocked and disappointed by the FIA ruling and firmly maintain our innocence."

Renault and Ferrari have both also appealed the ruling, although the two teams in this case feel the sanction was too lenient towards the Silverstone based team.

McLaren and Williams have withdrawn from the process, both having initially informed the FIA of an intent to appeal.
