Wolff contemplating his Mercedes future
The Austrian is still planning to remain in some capacity
Mercedes Formula 1 team principal Toto Wolff has revealed that "discussions are happening as we speak" over his future but no decision has yet been reached.
Mercedes recently rebuffed reports Wolff could be close to leaving the world champion team.
While that remains highly unlikely and Wolff will stay at Mercedes/Daimler in some capacity, he concedes he has not taken a decision as to how he sees his future panning out.
"I've been lucky enough to be at the helm of Mercedes since early 2014, and with years that I wouldn't want to miss," said Wolff.
"I really enjoy the interaction and working with all of my friends at the Formula 1 team and at Daimler, and this is something I wouldn't want to miss.
"Nevertheless I need to question myself. I don't want to become a team principal that goes from great to good without realising that I'm not adding as much to the team as I did in the beginning.
"I still feel that I can add a lot but, of course, I'm contemplating about my future, I'm in discussion with Ola (Källenius, chairman of the board of management of Daimler AG) how that goes.
"It is not a simple employment contract, but it involves a shareholding and we are in the midst of the process in carving our joint future, and therefore I don't want to stick to some particular wording, whether that's team principal or managing director.
"That plays no role, and to be honest with you, I haven't taken any decision yet because we haven't started racing.
"So all these agreements and discussions are happening as we speak."
Following Wolff's recent investment in Aston Martin, rumours quickly began to link the 48-year-old with a move to Racing Point - the team that will become Aston Martin in 2021.
Tobias Moers, the former CEO of AMG Mercedes, has moved to Aston Martin in the same role.
Speaking highly of the foundations being laid by the British manufacturer, Wolff added: "I have bought a few shares in Aston Martin as a financial investment. I believe in the brand, I believe the strategy that is being deployed makes sense.
"Tobias Moers, the new MD, is a guy I've known for a long time, and I believe he can turn around this business.
"There is a very strong group of shareholders that are backing Aston Martin today, and that will not let it down, and therefore I have decided to be part of that group.
"My executive functions are unchanged. I'm at Mercedes, I'm the team principal and I'm a shareholder, and it's clear that when there are no other headlines out there, the Aston Martin thing caused some waves.
"But I'm planning with Mercedes the best intention to stay here, and that is unchanged."
