Ricciardo rules out June start for Formula 1

Ricciardo rules out June start for Formula 1

Daniel Ricciardo is not now expecting the Formula 1 season to start until July at the earliest.

To date, the opening eight races have either been cancelled or postponed, with the first race on the schedule currently the Canadian GP in mid-June.

It is understood the race at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will soon be axed, along with the following events in France, Austria and Britain.

Renault driver Ricciardo, during a live Instagram chat with Australian rules football star Nic Naitanui, has set his sights on racing again in the summer, and the prospect of a heavily condensed calendar should that be the case.

“We don’t actually know when we’re going to go and compete again and I think when we do get going, our calendar will be looking pretty hectic," said Ricciardo.

"I think they’re going try to condense and squeeze as much as they can until the new year. When I do get that call, I want to be ready.

“I would love June to happen but at the moment, they’ve cancelled or postponed everything until mid-June but that’s the perfect world. I think it will be later than that."
