Red Bull will protest Mercedes DAS system in Australia

Red Bull will protest Mercedes DAS system in Australia

Sam Hall

Red Bull are set to launch a protest against the Mercedes Dual-Axis Steering [DAS] system if and when the Silver Arrows first use the innovation in the Formula 1 season opening Australian Grand Prix.

Across pre-season testing there were rumours that teams were considering the legality DAS, and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko made his position clear when talking to F1-insider.com. “For us, the system does not comply with the rules,” said Marko. “So we will protest when Mercedes uses the system in Melbourne.”

Regulations for 2021 forbid the use of DAS, the regulation already in place before Mercedes revealed the system during pre-season testing.

The protest from Red Bull follows an already successful protest from the team against the rear brake ducts on the Mercedes W11 - the FIA releasing a technical directive which has forced Mercedes to make changes.
